Default Two Professions Help

Hi, I've got Guild Wars coming through the post because I thought it looked really cool. I've been researching into the professions and noticed that you can have a secondary one?

If I were to create an elementalist, how would I also make her have a secondary ranger profession?
Also, if a character has two professions, can they do both dances?

I'd just like to have an understanding before the game arrives.

Thanks

you'll come across a quest that lets you choose your secondary,
you can only do emotes(that includes dance)of your own profession

Hi and welcome.

Everyone has 2 professions. At the beginning, you only have 1, your primary.

At a certain point, you choose a second.

The primary profession is the one which you have the dances and armor for, but you get skills for the second.

So if you want an Elementalist/Ranger (E/R), you'd have the armor of an Ele, the dance of an Ele, but you'd have access to the attributes and skills of a ranger in addition to your standard ele attributes.

Make a careful decision - your primary can't be changed (unless you make another character haha) and about your armor -

Armor is dependent on class - Casters have lower armor, physicals have higher armor.
Finally, if you have an Ele/Ranger, you can use ele runes but not ranger runes, whereas if you have a Ranger/Ele, you can use Ranger runes but not ele runes.

Help that gives you some insight.

To add on to the whole thing: you can change your secondary profession at certain points in each campaign - but, of course, you have to get there first. In Prophecies you have to do additional quests for each profession, but you don't pay anything for changing class. In Factions (I'm not sure about NF), you fork out 500g per new secondary class change. As people have already stated, you can't change your primary.

The life you once knew will be no more; my condolences

One thing that I felt could be helpful to know: you get attributes associated with your primary/secondary professions: e.g energy storage, fire magic, expertise, marksmanship, and others. There's about 8, but restraining yourself to focusing on 3 of them would be an idea. Don't worry, you can change your attribute focus whenever you're in a town.

But what you should really know, since you 1) bought the game because it looked really cool, and 2) were asking about dances:
First thing you should do in game is /drum

Yea, NF u pay 500g too, but just the first time u change. After that, u can change any time u want in an outpost

OBS: In prophecies u don't need to do the quests for get them if u want. After u beat crystal desert u can go to Great Temple of Balthazar, and u can pay 500g as well too

Make sure that you try out all the secondaries available before choosing a permanent one. This will give you skills to use later when you change secondary for different jobs.

An ele is a great first character, just remember the weak armor and stay back. You do not get any extra armor from your secondary.

In case you missed it in other posts here is a link to the wiki. This is also available ingame by using Help on the Menu, F10 or by typing /wiki in the chat window. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page

We are always glad to welcome another GW soon-to-be-addict to guru.
